Special Projects and Events
Cityfarm
Edmonton has a rich array of
activities for participants. Many of these activities can
offer sponsors an opportunity to direct their support to
specific areas of interest.
Please
inquire how you or your organization can sponsor an event or special activity.
Examples of sponsorship opportunities include:
-
"Journalist
for a Day"-- Budding young journalists capture their learning and
experiences to create videos, photo and online journals.
-
Beekeeping
-- Mr. Connell keeps some beehives at Cityfarm.
Participants suit up and help the beekeeper
divide the hives, clone queens, and of course, extract the
honey.
-
Activity Centres
-- Activities are centered on four main themes:
Soils/Plants/Food, Animal Care, Nature, and Adventure Play.
Sponsor one of these discovery zones or theme
program, i.e. cooking, the introduction of new animals,
or children's construction projects -- huts, furniture, etc.
-
Farm
Operations
-- The Cityfarm site depends on a host of "behind the
scenes" support systems including: Irrigation, solar hot water
heating and acres of field crops. Sponsorship opportunities include work-bees, the
installation of the irrigation system, and ongoing field work.
-
Grow a
Volunteer
-- Volunteers are the core of Cityfarm. Help us
strengthen our
program to include 150 volunteers in 2007-2008. Your dollars
contribute to recognition and appreciation events and items.
-
Seed to
Salad -- Beginning in January 2008, schools and after school
agencies will grow a "seed to salad garden" using high tech
indoor growing stations.
-
Special
Events
-- Spring Kick Off, the Harvest Festival, and Children's Farmer's Market
are examples of one day events that involve a large number of
folks in a variety of Cityfarm activities.

"Staff and parents have noticed that children learn social
skills and practical lessons, in terms of getting along and
making things that are concrete ... and develop an understanding
of the importance of the natural world and agriculture in our
society through the efforts of Cityfarm"
